Peter was a recent participant on the Way Ahead Service in which Move On is a partner. Way Ahead supports clients in Glasgow experiencing barriers such as experience of homelessness, the criminal justice system or addiction.
Peter was referred by his Way Ahead Mentor to our forklift training programme and into volunteering with FareShare. He faced barriers to employment including poor mental health and being long term unemployed but was motivated to slowly build his skills and experience again.
With the support of our trainer within four weeks Peter had passed his forklift driving certificate with Move On and had racked up a lot of hours volunteering with FareShare. This was a massive boost for his confidence and he appeared like a changed man, he was delighted at passing his test and felt that this was just the confidence boost he needed.
Peter then started applying for jobs and shortly afterwards was granted an interview with a food manufacture working on the production line and driving a forklift when required. At his interview he talked about his recent experience volunteering at FareShare, and he also had to show his proficiency in driving a forklift. Peter felt he was well prepared, and the test went well.
A week later Peter was offered a full-time job and was delighted about this and heaped praise on the Way Ahead Service for helping him to get the training, experience and confidence to get back into work so quickly!
We are so happy for Peter for all he has achieved, and we are delighted we have been able to be a part of this!
We are also delighted to say that 4/5 of our recent participants who have completed their forklift training have moved into employment!
