Building Brighter Futures employability training
Robbie joined our Building Brighter Futures employability training in March 2021. Due to lockdown restrictions, the course took place online. Robbie worked really hard, learning how to use Zoom and Teams, and achieved his SQA Employability Award and qualification in Communication Core Skills.
As restrictions eased, Robbie was able to travel up from the Scottish Borders to complete practical work experience at our Move On Wood Recycling workshop, achieving a Saltire Award for his time volunteering.
Robbie went on to pass his Health and Safety qualification and his CSCS test, which meant we could support him to successfully apply for a Green Labourer’s CSCS card. He was able to use this to secure employment over the summer with DV McColl and Border Timberguard.
With his new qualifications and work experience, Robbie applied for a plumbing apprenticeship with JW Border Gas and was successful! He starts his new role next week and is really excited to start earning while studying for an NVQ.
Robbie highly recommends the Building Brighter Futures employability training course, saying “Thank you for putting me through this and for all of your help with everything. I couldn’t recommend someone else to do this more, thanks again.”
Our Building Brighter Futures course gives 16-21 year olds like Robbie the opportunity to gain SQA qualifications, their CSCS card and practical work experience. We also support young people to create a CV, practice interview skills and take their next steps towards education, further training or employment.
Congratulations and good luck to Robbie for the future!
We offer a range of employability training courses for young people in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
