We’re doing this year’s Edinburgh Kiltwalk!
As you may already know, Move On is turning 25 in September! We’ve set ourselves a strong goal for our 25th birthday. We’re hoping to raise £25,000 to help us change lives for another 25 years!
To help with the fundraising effort, we have a Move On team taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on September 18th. We’d love for you to get involved! The Kiltwalk is a brilliant opportunity for us to fundraise towards our £25,000 target, with The Hunter Foundation matching all funds raised by 50%.
Every penny – and every walker – counts in helping us hit our target!
Walk Options
With 3 routes of different lengths available, there’s an option for everyone. We want as many people as possible to come along and represent Move On. It’s totally up to yourself what route you choose. Challenge yourself, but be realistic! The Kiltwalk have put together some great training guidelines to help you prepare. We’ll also be sending out our own handy tips and motivations via our newsletters to help you train along the way!
You can choose between;
The Wee Wander – 4.5 miles – Approx 2 hours to complete
The Big Stroll – 14.6 miles – Approx 4 hours to complete
The Mighty Stride – 24 miles – Approx 6 hours to complete
The Kiltwalk also provide regular pit stops, spaced at distances of about 4.5 miles. Whatever route you choose, you’ll have the chance for regular breaks! Water and snacks are provided at each stop, with a hot meal for those taking part in the Mighty Stride about halfway around the route. All walkers also receive a meal voucher to refuel in the Kiltwalk Village at the end of their chosen challenge!
How To Sign Up
First things first; if you want to walk with us, you need to go get yourself registered! Choose whichever route you want! You’ll be given the choice of two start time slots. If you’d like to walk with members of the Move On team, please select the later option. This will allow Move On walkers on the same route to set off together, and allow any walkers who aren’t Edinburgh locals a bit more time to get through! All 3 of the routes meet at some point, so we’ll make arrangements to co-ordinate nearer the time. We’ll do our best to pick up all walkers as we go along. We’d love to finish together as a big team!
We’ve also created a “25 Years Of Move On” team for you to join. When prompted to search for a team, enter either ‘Move On’ or ‘Rachel McIndoe’ (our enthusiastic team captain) to join in! Most importantly, make sure you select Move On as the charity you’ll be raising money for!
You’ll automatically receive your own dedicated Kiltwalk JustGiving page with your sign-up. If you’ve joined the ’25 Years Of Move On’ team, you’ll appear as a member on our team page, so we can share the work towards our team total! Please make sure that anyone who sponsors you does so direct through your Kiltwalk JustGiving page, as all funds must go through the Kiltwalk channel to receive the 50% top-up. For anyone donating cash old-school style, you’ll receive a sponsorship form and details for BACS transfer with your sign-up pack.
Deadline to sign up is the 16th September – just 2 days before the event! However, we strongly recommend signing up ASAP to maximise your time to train, and of course raise sponsorship!
Spread The Word
We’ll be putting out plenty of information encouraging people to get involved and support us on the Kiltwalk, but we need you to actively fundraise too!
The Move On team page will show our combined total, as well as each individual walker, or mini-team’s JustGiving profile (some of our Move On staff are raising through one JustGiving page – why not get some friends or colleagues on board and do the same!). It’d be great if you could fill your page out with as much information as possible. Give people some background on why you’re walking for Move On, and what we’re trying to achieve!
It’d also be great if you could share everything you’re doing on your own social platforms. And please, send us any content you’re comfortable with us sharing. We’d love to show our appreciation, and cheer you on across our own platforms! Please tag everything you share with #TeamMoveOn and #25YearsOfMoveOn – our official campaign hashtags! We want to see your stories, your training journeys – it’s a great way to get people involved and supporting. And don’t forget to keep on updating your JustGiving page with your training progress!
You can encourage other people to sign up too! Partners, friends, kids – get them to join the team and help us fundraise! The Mighty Stride is suitable for ages 15+, The Big Stroll 13+, and The Wee Wander is even OK for prams and children over 5 – feel free to bring the kiddos along!
Move On Staff Team
If you can’t make it along on the day – no worries, we get it! If you’d still like to support our challenge, you can always sponsor the Move On Staff Team and help us reach our target. All donations are so welcome!
