Paid Work Placements
Paid Work Placements provide people with the opportunity to work on a paid placement at the Real Living Wage.
Placements are funded for between 18 and 26 weeks, and for between 16 and 25 hours a week (with flexibility for fewer if required because of disability or caring responsibilities).
Candidates can also expect ongoing support during their placement, as well as training to help them to stay in employment at the end of the placement.
Amanda's story
As part of the Paid Work Placement programme, Amanda completed a placement as Cafe Manager for Swamp Creative Media Centre.
After sadly losing both her parents in one year, Amanda had started volunteering in the Pollok Pantry, run by SWAMP, to help with her grieving process. When the placement opportunity came up for next door at the cafe, Amanda was encouraged to apply.
The placement helped Amanda build on the confidence and skills she had started to develop by volunteering. Amanda says “It took me to new levels. It helped me to achieve things that I never thought I could do.”
Amanda has now secured a permanent role with SWAMP.
Wiktoria's story
Wiktoria completed a Paid Work Placement with Dress for Success.
When Wiktoria’s Mum became unwell, Wiktoria moved home to care for her, which meant leaving her first graduate role. After an extended employment break, Wiktoria says the Paid Work Placement “made me feel really good about myself and really safe in coming back to the workplace.”
Wiktoria says the placement “more than” exceeded her expectations and she now feels like “no matter what kind of job role I attempt, I have so much more to give.”
Who can apply
Paid Work Placements are open to people who are unemployed and not in education, have a Glasgow City council postcode, have barriers to employment and have the right to work in the UK.
Students are not eligible for a paid work placement.
