Our latest employment case study shares how Rebekah secured a staff role as a Development Worker with Move On after starting as a volunteer.
Rebekah started volunteering with our FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland social enterprise five days a week during lockdown.
The staff team told Rebekah about our Employability Fund course, which we thought would be a perfect fit for her, and she successfully applied. The training course supported Rebekah to gain SQA qualifications, food hygiene and manual handling training, and practical work experience.
After increasing her skills and confidence, Rebekah started to help oversee the new trainees on the warehouse floor, assisting our staff team to give instructions and show other young people how to do their tasks well.
After completing the course, Rebekah secured a paid work placement at our warehouse as part of the UK government Kickstart scheme, gaining further on-the-job training and support with CV and interview practice.
Rebekah has also completed her forklift operator training and says driving the forklift is one of her favourite parts of working in our warehouse.
Rebekah is now a Development Worker with Move On, supporting other young people on our employability training courses. She says the role has “helped me build my confidence and push myself to speak in public and in front of groups.” Rebekah says as well as the role benefiting her own self-esteem, “it’s nice to see young people build confidence.” She adds “I love helping people. I love both sides.”
Rebekah says she recommends the training and employment opportunities at Move On, particularly because “they help you mentally and physically… They keep your head busy and give you structure.”
We’re currently recruiting for Training for Work, our new employability training programme based at FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland. The course is open to 16-24 year olds who live in Glasgow. You can read more about the course on our website, or contact email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP to sign up or refer a young person.
