FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland and Give a Dog a Bone have united to provide cost-of-living support for pet owners through a network of pet food banks.

The new partnership aims to put food into the bowls of pets in need and lessen the financial strain on owners.

Our FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland service will pass on products donated by companies including Pets at Home, Purina Petcare, Lily’s Kitchen and Mars Petcare.

Give a Dog a Bone will use the donations to help owners struggling to feed their cats and dogs by stocking the shelves of their network of pet food banks in Glasgow, Troon and Alloa.

We will also work together to redistribute surplus pet food to other smaller animal charities.

Jim Burns, FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland Director of Operations, said

“We are proud to be working with Give a Dog a Bone to provide cost-of-living support for pet owners

“With more people struggling to make ends meet, the rising cost of pet food is an additional financial burden on pet owners.

“We hope our supply of pet food will help ease some of the strain during this really challenging time.”

Louise Russell, Give a Dog a Bone Founder and Chief Executive, said

“We are excited about this new partnership with FareShare.

“Having run pet food banks since 2018, we have witnessed a sharp increase in their usage across all of the communities we operate in.

“We know the cost-of-living crisis is a real worry for pet owners, especially for those who were already on a tight budget. No one should have to consider giving up their pet because they can’t afford to keep up with the rising cost of food.

“Our pet food banks in Glasgow, Troon and Alloa are here to help and open to all.

“We also look forward to supporting local animal rescues – who are also struggling in this difficult climate. If you are an animal rescue based in Glasgow and the West, please contact Give a Dog a Bone to discuss how this new partnership can support you.”
