We’re now accepting applications for our Young Inspection Volunteers programme!
We work with our Young Inspection Volunteers through our partnership with The Care Inspectorate. The Care Inspectorate inspect care and social work services to make sure they are high quality and meet the needs of people who use them. We believe that we can make care better by working with people who have a lived experience of these services.
Who Can Apply
The Young Inspection Volunteers programme looks for young people with personal experience of care. So, if you have used a care service, you could be just who we’re looking for. You don’t need to have qualifications – personal experience is what counts. You must be between 16-27 years old to apply.
Both Move On and the Care Inspectorate value, celebrate and fully embrace equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging for everyone.
We want to increase the diversity of our Young Inspection Volunteer workforce. We especially welcome applications from those who are care experienced disabled, from the LGBTQIA+ community, from a minority ethnic background, males (the programme has a lot of female volunteers), and young carers.
How It Works
Your personal experience gives you a unique insight into care. You’ll join us on inspections to talk to children and young people using care services. We know that they’re more likely to share their honest views with someone who has a similar lived experience to their own. You can help make sure the views of people using these services are an important part of the inspection, and are included in all reports and findings.
What You’ll Do
Young Inspection Volunteers play an important role in Care Inspectorate operations. Activities will include;
- Taking part in inspections of individual services and local authority areas
- Talking to children and young people using services, accurately recording and sharing their views and opinions on the service they are getting.
- Leading focus groups to find out what children and young people think of their service.
- Meeting with managers to find out how well children and young people are included in developing and improving services.
- Helping with corporate parenting duties.
- Writing summaries of your findings for the inspection report.
Support
You’ll receive full support throughout your journey as a Young Inspection Volunteer. You’ll receive an initial 5 days of training at our Move On offices in Glasgow City Centre. These are currently expected to take place in late September, across a period of 2 weeks.
Once you’re trained, we’ll try to match you with services best suited to your experience. Both Move On and The Care Inspectorate will work closely with you to support your work with us. We’ll cover your expenses, and if you have specific needs, we’ll do our best to support you with these too.
The Application Process
After we receive your application, members of the Care Inspectorate and the Move On teams will meet with you to talk more about the role, and find out if we’re a good fit. We’ll ask you for some references, and we’ll do some checks to make sure the role is suitable for you. Once all the checks are complete, we will provide training and you’ll go out on shadow inspections so that you know what to do and have the skills to thrive in your new role.
