Tony was referred to our Connect 2 course by Rosshall Academy after issues with gang violence, anti-social behaviour and alcohol meant his performance and attendance at school were suffering. At the time he was referred, Tony’s attendance was very poor and he was at risk of re-offending.
Connect 2 is an employability course for young people who are facing barriers and need support to make a positive transition onto further opportunities. We work together with FARE and Impact Arts to provide taster sessions to increase young people’s personal development and core skills including communication, problem solving, team work, and practical, media and creativity skills.
At the beginning of the course, Tony’s behaviour could be disruptive and he lacked motivation. Through continued support and assistance – including one-to-one chats and some time out – his motivation increased and he started to positively engage with the activities and other young people.
Tony completed a one-day work experience placement at our FareShare Glasgow and the West of Scotland warehouse, where he engaged well and took responsibility for the tasks he was asked to complete. As well as helping to make up food orders to go out to organisations in the community, Tony was bubbly and got on really well with staff and volunteers.
Through hard work and excellent attendance Tony has gained practical work experience and accredited employability qualifications. He is feeling more positive about reengaging with school and has shown an interest in construction. Tony says “I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for this course and the support I have received.” Congratulations to Tony for coming on leaps and bounds since being referred – we wish you all the best for a bright future ahead!
